The purpose of the Foundation is to build a better Southern California by supporting nonprofit organizations to more effectively serve the underserved. In order to achieve this mission and advance equity, the Foundation uses a number of different strategies:Providing grants and other support designed to improve the capacity and effectiveness of nonprofit organizations working in the areas of health, human services, and education for people and communities who currently face the most obstacles to opportunity.Giving the highest priority to organizations working to provide greater access, resources, and opportunities in low-income communities, including those whose race, gender, immigration status, disability, age, sexual orientation, or zip code has prevented them from realizing the dignities and liberties all people deserve.Through responsive and initiative grantmaking, focus greater attention on critical issues that are associated with the growing imbalance of opportunity in Southern California, including: child welfare, immigrant integration, workforce development, re-entry, homelessness, youth development, and public education.Exercising leadership on issues that strengthen and support the ability of nonprofit organizations to achieve their missions and desired outcomes. This includes advocating for programs, policies, and services that address the needs of communities most lacking in opportunity and access.
